Interesting facts Falcon's Nest

At the beginning of the 19th century, in the place of today's chateau, there was a smaller house with walls beaten with bark, which served as a bar. The initiator of the construction of the excursion chateau was Edmund Clary-Aldringen, who aptly named the building, completed in 1881, the Falcon's Nest.

Originally, the Falcon's Nest was to serve as a hotel, where important guests of the Clara-Aldringen family were to be accommodated. At present, there is a restaurant, decorated with original paintings, period floors and wall paneling. Magical views can be found from the terrace of the restaurant. You can see not only the Pravčická gate, but also the surroundings of Sokolí hnízda.

The first floor of the excursion castle is currently used for the exhibition of photographs by Julius Pufler.

The excursion castle was named after the falcons, which nest in the local rocks, and which can be seen here quite often.

TIP: near Sokolí hnízda there are several viewpoints that are worth a visit. The nearest is located at the Pravčická gate and others are then scattered on the rocks in the area.

Falcon's nest and its history

The Sokolí hnízdo chateau was built in a single year, which was a relatively exceptional time due to the size of the building itself. Workers from Italy, who were the cheapest labor force at the time, took part in its creation.

Viewpoints were built around the chateau; at the end of the 1970s, the access road to Hřensko was paved and a promenade to Mezní Louka was built.

How to get here?

If you go to Sokolí hnízda by car, then it is ideal to park it in Hřensko in the paid parking lot at the Klepáč restaurant, or in Mezní Louka in the parking lot at the Mezní Louka hotel. A red marked hiking trail will lead you to the Pravčická Gate and Sokolí hnízdo.
