Interesting facts Ploskovice

Artificial water caves, collections and a garden
On the ground floor on the south side of the castle, be sure to visit artificial water caves (grotts) with fountains and statues. The interior itself recalls the time of Ferdinand V. Habsburg's summer stays. There are various collections to view - glass and porcelain, furniture, paintings and sculptures. After a rich cultural experience, you can relax on one of the four castle garden terraces. The terraces are decorated with fountains, vases and other stone accessories. In the back of the park there is a pond and a poplar alley. Rare trees and ingenious division of individual parts of the park will entice you to romantic walks.

From the Hussite wars to the present
Are you interested in the history of Ploskovice? A Renaissance chateau was built from the original fortress at the end of the 16th century. However, it was damaged during the Thirty Years' War, it ceased to meet the needs and demands of the nobility, and so a Baroque chateau was built in its place. It was originally intended to serve Anna Maria of Tuscany as a summer residence. Later, they became lords of the Habsburg chateau, and the former Austrian emperor and last Czech king Ferdinand of Habsburg spent years here. After the disintegration of Austria-Hungary, the castle became the property of the state. The chateau has been open to the public since the 1960s.

The castle also serves other purposes
If you think you know Ploskovice Castle from somewhere, it may be because several fairy tales and movies were shot here. The most famous are the fairy tale The Prince and the Evening Star. Other cultural events take place at the chateau - exhibitions, concerts, adventure events, but you can also order an unforgettable wedding ceremony here.
