Malenovice castle
When wandering around Czech castles and chateaux, do not miss the western promontory of Tlustá hora, where you will discover Malenovice Castle from the second half of the 14th century. Margrave Jan Jindřich became the first owner and the building was originally Gothic. The owners changed quite a lot here, and the more important ones were the Lichtemburks, Tetours, Bítovs, Liechtenstein-Kastelkorns and the last Sternbergs.

Interesting facts Malenovice castle
From 1692, the castle of Malenovice was owned by František Karel of Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn and he lived here permanently. Of course, he wanted to have his seat comfortable and embarked on building modifications in the Baroque style. The Salm-Neuburks became the next owners in the order, but since they had a new chateau built in Pohořelice, the castle was no longer so inhabited. The castle operated for the needs of the economic administration and officials. He also underwent regular repairs and maintenance.
The Germans took over the manor in 1942 and after the war, in 1946, the property was confiscated. The castle has had museum exhibitions since 1951. At present, you can come to the permanent exhibition "Castles of Southeast Moravia", where you will get acquainted with long-term research on sixteen already extinct castles from the Middle Ages. Texts, pictures and with archeological findings from the investigated localities are prepared. In the exhibits you will be interested in decorated tiles, fake coins from the money-killing workshop and arrowheads.
The second exhibition deals with the Malenovice branch of the Šternberks and the period from 1804 to 1945. It is an approximation of the reigns of the last private owners. The third castle tour will introduce you to old crafts in Malenovice. You will look at the tools of craftsmen and their products. in addition to traditional crafts, you will also get acquainted with the tradition of potters in Malenovice and with the processing of mother-of-pearl. In the hunting lodge in front of the castle, go to the exhibition "Wood - wicker - straw" with a demonstration of the processing of materials from our nature. Go to the castle tower and in summer do not miss various cultural performances.
