Šošůvské caves

The Šošův Caves are an integral part of the Sloupsko - Šošův Caves complex. This is the largest set of accessible caves in our country. A number of large corridors, domes or underground abysses are connected in two underground floors. The height difference between the two floors is about 60 meters. Only the upper floor is intended for visitors. You can choose from two sightseeing tours, short and long. Part of the caves is barrier-free.

Interesting facts Šošůvské caves

The long circuit leads through the Šošův part

The short circuit does not measure even one kilometer, leads through the columned part of the caves and ends in a cave called Kůlna, where you can see the archeological exposition. Skeletons of cave bears, hyenas and lions and other animals were found in this cave. The local find of a part of the skull of a Neanderthal man is also significant. The long circuit, which measures almost two kilometers and leads through the Sloup and Šošův caves, also ends in this cave. Concerts are even held in Eliška's cave, because there is excellent acoustics and beautiful stalactite decoration.

The caves were reconstructed

In 1997, part of the route in the Šošůvské Caves was reconstructed and a part called the Stepped Abyss was bridged, so you can see other spaces. The deepest abyss remains the Nagel abyss with 80 meters depth. The Šošův part of the caves was discovered in 1889 and the subject of increased protection is mainly the delicate and colorful stalactite decoration. You can also see the newly opened spaces in winter. You can walk through the Historical Circuit or take a walk under the flashlight lights.

The caves are part of the whole system

The Sloupský stream flows through the cave underground and connects the Sloupské and Šošůvské caves with the Amateur Cave, which is the largest Czech cave. The total length of this system is 35 km. The reservation includes both Sloupská and Šošůvská caves. The aim is to protect both karst phenomena and paleontological sites and bats.
