Interesting facts Ondráš's holes

Only about 2 km in the direction northwest of Lysá hora is the Lukšinec ridge and directly on its top lies the Natural Monument of Ondráš's Hole. In the Beskydy region, this is a completely unique system of caves, which was declared a natural monument in 1990, and which covers an area of 4.5 hectares. However, if we take into account the total area, including surface and underground pseudo-karst phenomena, we find that this natural monument occupies an extraordinary 14 hectares. In addition, Ondráš's holes are also remarkable from a zoological point of view. This is an area in which colonies of endangered species of bats live.

Ondráš's holes are formed by pseudokarst fissure and cleft caves, composed of Godul layers, layered conglomerates, claystones and glauconitic layers.

In front of ordinary visitors and tourists, only a very narrow entrance secured by bars, ditches, rock blocks and terrain depressions is revealed from the entire cave system. The caves do not have stalactite decoration and the stone blocks are actually constantly moving, moving and moving. There are many similar cracks in the area and Ondráš's holes are just one of them. Another example is:

Zbojnická - or Ondrášova, which is the largest and which can be found under the green, red and yellow crossroads of hiking trails in the direction south of the ridge. It can only be passed with standard speleological equipment, it is approximately 4 ° C in it and bats nest in it.

Ondráš's largest cave is very narrow and in the widest parts it is about 1 meter. The dimensions of the entrance hole are about 1 x 0.5 meters and immediately behind it is a high slope and the left and right branches of the caves. The largest cavity measures 5 x 7 x 9 meters and can be found in the left branch. The right part includes corridors 217 meters long and a 6 meter deep hole.

The cave is locked only in winter, to protect bats. Otherwise, the monument is normally open to visitors.

You can get to the entrance to the caves after about ten meters south of the yellow marked hiking trail leading to Lysá hora.
