Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Neratov

In the village of Neratov in the Eagle Mountains you can visit a unique church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, whose specialty is the glass roof. The construction of the local church dates back to the end of the 15th century, shortly after the village of Neratov was founded. At that time, it looked like a smaller wooden church, which was later destroyed by fire. The church we know today was built on the site of the wooden one in 1723.

The village of Neratov was known as a famous place of pilgrimage in the 1760s. According to his dream, the parish priest of Rokytnice had a statue of the Virgin Mary carved here.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built during the first third of the 18th century and can be found just above Neratov in the Orlické Mountains. At the end of World War II, he was caught in a fire and fell into disrepair in later years. The church was not reconstructed until after 2000, when it was also equipped with a glass roof.

In 1992, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Neratov was entered on the list of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. On August 14, 2011, it also became a place of pilgrimage in the Hradec Králové diocese.

The total length of the church is 48 meters and width 19 meters. It is 18 to 20 meters high. The location of the chancel follows the north-south axis, ie the main façade is open to the south and the chancel faces north. According to the surviving information in the old chronicles, thanks to this location, exactly at Christmas time, the sun's rays fall directly on the tabernacle.

The designer of the church in Neratov was most likely Giovanni Battista Alliprandi.

The authors of the glass roof project are Jiří Starý and Petr Dostál. The combination of raw masonry, wood and glass creates an extraordinary impression. Directly in front of the church, a fruit orchard of reconciliation with Old Bohemian apple trees, plums and pears was planted.
