Interesting facts Babylon lookout tower near Kozárov

The Babylon Iron Lookout Tower near Kozárov also serves as a mobile operator's transmitter in addition to tourist purposes. It stands about 20 km northwest of Blansko, on the hill Babylon near Kozárov. It is located at an altitude of 651 meters and was officially opened in June 2001.

The total height of the lookout tower is 42 meters and a total of 139 steps lead to its observation platform at a height of 24 meters. From the tower you will have a magical view of Pálava and part of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. You will also see the Dukovany nuclear power plant, part of the Jeseníky and Orlické mountains.

The easiest way to the lookout tower is from the village of Kunčina Ves, at the end of which there is a turn to the right to the lookout tower. This road is also a connection to Kozárov. There is a small parking lot by the lookout tower.
If you walk, there is also a green tourist sign leading to the lookout tower from Kozárov or Kunčina Ves.

During the summer holidays, you can get to the lookout tower daily between 11 am and 6 pm. In September and October, it is only open on weekends between 11:00 and 18:00. If none of these opening times suits you, it is possible to make an order by phone. During bad weather, however, the lookout tower is closed to the public.

The lookout tower called Babylon is not the only one in the Czech Republic. You would find the second one near Náměště nad Oslavou.
The one near Kozárov stands on the Babylon hill at an altitude of 651 meters. People have known for many years that this place is perfect for building a lookout tower. From the 1950s, a wooden tower stood on this site.


The idea to build a new lookout tower here came from the Kozárov town hall, which, in agreement with Český mobil, actually had the tower built here. However, the condition was concluded that in addition to the transmitter of the mobile operator Oscar (later Vodafone), the tower will also serve as a tourist lookout tower, after which it must be equipped with a viewing platform.


Ericsson then undertook the construction of the lookout tower. Construction began at the end of 2000 and was fully funded by the telecommunications company. The land for construction and building permits were provided by the municipality. The first visitors with a view from the Babylon lookout tower could enjoy it after its completion. However, the official release did not take place until June 2001.


You would find a completely identical building on the Rosička hill near Sázava in the Vysočina region.

The administration of the lookout tower now falls under the Kozárov Municipal Office.
