Interesting facts Lookout tower on Chocholík near Drnovice

The iron lookout tower on the Chocholík hill, standing about 1.5 km to the northwest in Drnovice and about 5 km to the west of Vyškov, was officially opened to tourists on May 1, 2011. It is situated at an altitude of 366 meters and its total height is 26 meters .

A total of 144 steps will take you to the viewing platform. From the top of the tower you can see the Drahanská Highlands, Pálava, Chřiby, Ždánický Forest, Beskydy, Hostýn Hills and, with good visibility, allegedly the Alps.

From Drnovice, you can easily reach the lookout tower on the way from the cemetery above the church. The road to the lookout tower is about 1.6 km long and can only be reached on foot or by bike, etc., as cars are not allowed.

The lookout tower is open to the public and open daily without restrictions.

The new iron lookout tower with a lattice structure has been standing on the Chocholík hill since 2010. However, the local hill provides a beautiful view of the surroundings, so this lookout tower is not the first observation structure to stand here. It was preceded by a wooden triangulation tower, which, however, disappeared in 1990.

Behind the creation of the new lookout tower was mainly MUDr. Jaroslav Dvořák, member of the local commission for the environment. The municipal council approved the construction of a lookout tower in 2008 and the following year a zoning plan was prepared. The designer originally designed a stone tower, divided into several floors. Another variant was a 16 meter high tower, built of wood in combination with iron. In its final form, a lookout tower 26 meters high was created with a lattice steel structure with a triangular floor plan and a central column.

The construction of the lookout tower was carried out by the company STAEG, s.r.o. It started in 2010 and was completed the same year. Spring 2011 was still dedicated to landscaping around the lookout tower and on May 1, 2011 it was officially opened.
