Interesting facts Heřmanice lookout tower

The wooden lookout tower has only been located on a gentle hill near Heřmanice since September 2012. It is about half a kilometer away from Heřmanice and about 20 km north of Liberec. It lies at an altitude of 352 meters and its construction is truly unconventional.

The total height of the lookout tower is 23.7 meters and a total of 99 steps will take you to the viewpoint. From the hill there is a beautiful view of the Jizera and Lusatian Mountains, Dětřichov, Heřmanice or the Žítavská lowland.

If you are going to the lookout tower by car, turn left from the Liberec-Frýdlant road in the Czech Republic in Dětřichov until you reach Heřmanice. In them, turn right onto a narrow asphalt road and on to a wooded hill, where there is a small parking lot next to the lookout tower.

The lookout tower is open daily, all year round without restrictions.

The unique lookout tower near Heřmanice is also called a cucumber or penis due to its shape. It was designed by young architects, graduates of the Technical University of Liberec, Pavel Nalezený, Jan Vondrák and Jan Malach. They first developed a project and then looked for implementation options.

The construction of the lookout tower was to be completed in 2009, but the deadline was eventually extended due to growing vegetation. The lookout tower had to be raised by one floor because of him. Due to finances, it was ultimately chosen not a curved, but a straight variant of the building.

Larch wood was used for the construction of the lookout tower. The structure consists of 54 pilots and the average lookout tower is 5 meters. The building has two stairs, one for ascent and the other for descent. Construction costs climbed to 3.6 million crowns and the construction was entrusted to Taxus s.r.o.
