This unusual lookout tower was created from the metal structure of the ski jump tower. It is located in the sports complex V Popelkách west of Lomnice nad Popelkou and about 15 km south of Semily.
The lookout tower is located at an altitude of 590 meters and its total height is 29.4 meters. From a height of 28.1 meters, in which the viewing platform is located, you will have a view of the north, west and east. The Giant Mountains, a large part of the Jizera Mountains, the Lusatian Mountains, the Eagle Mountains and others are completely visible. The viewing platform has a circular shape and the floor is made of wooden planks. When climbing the lookout tower, you will have to climb 112 steps, including 12 steps at the runway. But there are another 235 steps along the landing area, which will have to be climbed by those who come from below.
The easiest way to get here is from Lomnice follow the blue tourist sign to the V Popelkách crossroads and continue on the green. You can drive directly to the lookout tower. The lookout tower is open daily and freely accessible without restrictions.
Lomnice nad Popelkou boasts two lookout towers. The first one has been located on Mount Tábor since 2007 and the second bust has been found in the V Popelkách sports complex. This truly non-traditional lookout tower was created by rebuilding the K70 ski jump during the modernization of the complex. The whole reconstruction took 3 years.
The walkway is located at a height of 28 meters and the upper ring is 45 meters in circumference. The lookout tower was opened to tourists on July 4, 2007. In the competition Construction of the Year 2007 of the Liberec Region, this lookout tower won the Sympathy Award, which clearly testifies to its unusualness. Jaromír Stránský, the author of the project, is said to have been inspired by the shape of the wine goblet.
