This brick building with a total height of 28 meters has a wooden observation deck located at a height of 25 meters. A total of 136 steps lead to it, after which you will overcome a magical view of the entire Šumava, starting with the Bohemian Forest, through the central Šumava and ending with Lipno and Prachatice. The east and north sides provide inland views.

The lookout tower is located at an altitude of 609 meters and lies on the hill Chlum, about 1 km west of Chanovice and about 35 km east of Klatovy. It was officially opened to tourists in 2010.

You can combine a visit to the lookout tower with a pleasant walk along the nature trail Pošumaví Nature and Forests, which leads directly to the lookout tower. It starts in the village of Chanovice, where it is also possible to park a car.

The lookout tower is open every day from 10 am to 4 pm. It is open at the same time in September, but only on weekends.

At the birth of the lookout tower stood the Civic Association PANORAMA for the countryside on the border of Western Bohemia. His efforts to build the lookout tower lasted a total of 10 years, during which they saved CZK 800,000. However, the estimated amount was based on two million crowns, and therefore on June 17, 2006, the entire project was taken over by the municipality of Chanovice. The laying of the foundation stone of the lookout tower also took place on that day. However, the construction did not really begin until two years later, at a time when the municipality had received inquiries from the Pilsen Regional Authority.

The project was developed by Ing. Sheet. Jiří Kučera. The structure has a square floor plan, made of concrete bricks and with an octagonal observation deck, made of wood. The staircase is metal. Construction began in July 2008. Construction costs eventually climbed to 3.5 million crowns. The grand opening of the lookout tower took place on August 6, 2010.
