Lovoš - Czech Central Mountains

The basalt dominant of Lovosice and its surroundings is undoubtedly the Lovoš hill with an altitude of 570 meters. The town of Lovosice extends from its top like in the palm of your hand, but the top itself is formed by two cones. We usually come across the names Malý and Velký Lovoš, or Lovoš and Kibička, as a designation for Malý Lovoš. Both cones are part of the national nature reserve, but there is a difference between the two hills. In the case of Kybička, it is not a basalt, but a bell-shaped hill.

Interesting facts Lovoš - Czech Central Mountains

One of the tourist routes to Lovos leads from nearby Lovosice, and this route is not significantly demanding, however, in certain sections it is very steep. Another route to Lovoš leads from the village of Opárno, Košťálov and others. As a reward for climbing to the very top, there is undoubtedly a magical circular view not only of Lovosice, but also of the Bohemian Central Mountains, the Elbe lowlands and more distant mountains.

Since 1892, a small stone building with a flat roof stood on the top of Lovoš. It served as a lookout tower for tourists and stood here until 1918, when it was severely damaged by vandals. During the Second World War, the building was converted into an observatory, and in 1924 Jan Nepomuk Schwarzenberg initiated the construction of a new cottage with an observation deck, built near the stone building. The cottage is located in Lovos to this day and serves as a hostel and restaurant.
