Milesovka

Hromová hora or Queen of the Bohemian Central Mountains - these and other nicknames were earned by Milešovka, a peak with a total altitude of 836 m, which was considered the highest mountain in the Czech lands in the 18th century. Although Milešovka is quite far from the altitude of Sněžka, it is also a very specific and beautiful mountain, perhaps only because of its appearance!

Interesting facts Milesovka

Milešovka is reportedly the windiest place in the whole Czech Republic with an average of eight windless days a year. There is a thunderstorm on Milešovka up to thirty times a year, and thanks to the high incidence of stormy weather, this peak is called Hromová hora, as already mentioned.

In 1953, Milešovka was declared a National Nature Reserve and has always been a great lookout point, mainly due to the meteorological station, from where there is a beautiful panoramic view. If the weather is favorable, you will see not only the beauty of the Bohemian Central Mountains in the palm of your hand, but also the Giant Mountains, Prague, Šumava or the Ore Mountains.

The first lookout tower was built here during the 1950s, it was made of stone, but unfortunately it did not last very long. From the beginning of the 20th century, a meteorological observatory with a 19-meter-high tower began to be built on Milešovka, which was completed in 1904. The tower was opened to tourists as a lookout tower and they could use it until after World War II, when it was closed. The reopening of the observation tower did not take place until 1998.

The hike to Milešovka can be started, for example, from the village of Bílka or Milešov or from Bílý Újezd. Tourists, who prefer lighter hikes, can use the route from the west and north side of the mountain, which lies at a slightly higher altitude. Towards the top, Milešovka is afforested with dense deciduous forest, which unfortunately prevents views during the ascent to the mountain. However, do not despair, you will be rewarded at the very top of Milešovka!
