Pustevny - Beskydy

The place between the two mountains is called a mountain saddle. Its two opposite sides always rise to the tops of the mountains and the other two descend to the valley. You can find just one such saddle in the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains below the Radhošť peak and it is named Pustevny. It lies at an altitude of 1018 m and is worth a visit in summer and winter. A two-seater cable car will take you here from the village of Trojanovice in all seasons, offering you a beautiful view of the landscape from a bird's eye view. But you can also get here by bus or car.

Interesting facts Pustevny - Beskydy

The mountain residence of Pustevny is named after the hermits who once lived here. The last of them died in 1874. Since then, Pustevny has been an important tourist center and one of the most beautiful places in the Beskydy Mountains. The famous Slovak architect Dušan Jurkovič, who built several buildings here, certainly has his share in this. This contract for the construction of a set of folk dormitories was awarded to him in 1898 by members of the tourist association Pohorské jednoty Radhošť. In his designs, Jurkovič tried to evoke the impression of Slavic folk architecture. This created wooden log buildings in the Art Nouveau style, called Maměnka and Libušín, which are jointly registered as national cultural monuments. Their exterior and interior are richly decorated with stylized decor. Twice in history they have been threatened with extinction, but fortunately they have survived to this day. Jurkovič also made a wooden bell tower here, which is richly decorated. Today's colorful ornaments, however, do not come directly from the hands of Dušan Jurkovič, but later Brno restorers. The original color decoration has not been preserved, so the bell tower had to be restored according to plans stored in the archives.

From Pusteven, you can comfortably reach the top of Radhoště along the ridge to the west. The sidewalk also leads around the famous statue of the pagan god Radegast. You can go here on foot, by bike or cross-country skiing in winter.
In winter, Pustevny is a popular ski resort. They include the eponymous ski area with 11 lifts and 9 slopes.

There is no ideal time to visit Pusteven, because everyone has their own charm. Whether the lawns on the slopes are green, mountain herbs bloom, the leaves turn yellow or there is a white blanket of snow, you will always like it here.
