Babiččino údolí

Babiččino údolí is inextricably linked with Ratibořice Castle and then also with Božena Němcová's Grandmother. The most famous places from this novel are all around you here.
Undoubtedly the most important place is the Old Bleach. This is where the main plot of the book takes place. It is a romantic wooden cottage, built in 1797 by the miller Antonín Ludr. Němcová spent a beautiful holiday with her children in 1844. Here you can see an exhibition with folk furniture and daily necessities.
Directly behind the Old Bleacher is Viktor's raft, where the mad Viktorka threw her baby and then went to this place to sing lullabies. The wooden raft is not original, in the first half of the 19th century there were changes in the construction of an irrigation system for the Ratibořice meadows and further reconstruction was carried out in 1874 - 1875. Therefore, when the film Grandmother was shot here, the place was reminiscent of a period atmosphere.
Another important stop on the way is Ludrův mlýn. This one-storey stone building served as the miller's apartment. Later, another Empire-style building was added to it, which later served as an almond tree. The mill was reconstructed in 1950 to match the original state and story of Božena Němcová. Here you will find an exhibition dealing with the miller's craft, period furniture and figures of merry watermen. Mr. Father himself will then offer you some good juice and small snacks in the backyard.
At the end of the alley leading to Ludr's Mill stands the most beautiful and most famous Czech monument - the Grandmother Sculpture with children. It depicts children returning from a visit to the mill and a grandmother who tells them that everyone has their own star, people chosen by God have beautiful stars, people like Viktorka are cloudy. The author of the sculptural group, which was ceremoniously unveiled in 1922, is the academic sculptor Otto Gutfreund.
