Interesting facts Odra meanders

The border meanders of the Odra were declared a natural monument in November 2006. The area covers 126 ha. The section of the meandering course of the river Odra on the Czech-Polish border from the confluence with Olší to Starý Bohumín, the adjoining floodplain vegetation and permanent and periodic water areas and the European important locality Meandry Dolní Odry is protected. The reserve contains meanders, blind shoulders and ponds created by unregulated riverbed formation processes. The section between Starý Bohumín and Kopytov creates gravel alluvium and benches. There is a constant slight change in the state borders between the Czech Republic and Poland.

Many protected plants and animals live in and along the river. For example, the river kingfisher, the kingfisher and the golden eagle nest here. The European beaver, the forest badger or the river otter also found refuge here. The purity of the water is also evidenced by the occurrence of pond clam, yellow-bellied toad or green tree frog. You can admire the beautiful white water lilies.
