The ruins of the Kašovice fortress

On a hill above the village in the Klatovy district, the remains of the Gothic Kašovice fortress stand on a site among the larch trees that once formed the natural fortifications. The appearance of the original homestead is not known, but the remains of today's date come from the first half of the 14th century, when Mr. Sezem of Kašovice was here.

Interesting facts The ruins of the Kašovice fortress

A few years later, the manor was held by a family of lords from Velhartice, based on the castle of the same name, where the guide's explanation is based on comparing the manor to figures from a chessboard. After temporarily holding the property of Rožmberk, he returned to the above-mentioned gentlemen. In the 16th century, the seat was declared desolate. However, it was used for housing for more than a hundred years. It had three floors and was characterized by simplicity and modest equipment. Today, three walls remain with two hints of partitions and a buried cellar. History scholars also talk about traces of the fireplace, the large ballroom and the medieval toilet.

The mood near the ruins is very uplifting and the whole area invites you to stop and dream. Perhaps also because, according to legend, the castle lady lived here, who once came here as a girl hiding from her father. She was afraid that he would take her for a woman for one of her peculiarities. So she fled to this region, and what fate did not want, she found the love of her life there. He made his ball in a nearby town and a big spark between future husbands. And of course a piece of jewelry. Who was it about? After all, a princess with a gold star on her forehead. This then became the motive for the depiction of the still popular fairy tale.

So head up to the forest a few hundred meters above a small village, formerly called diminutively - Kašovičky. You will see a mysterious and very interesting torso of a former charming homestead. It is not very visible from the road, so it can be easily overlooked. But it would be a shame to miss a small wooded island with one of the pearls of our ancient past.
