Interesting facts Prague ZOO

Our history began as early as the 19th century, when various celebrities, including ethnographer Vojta Náprstek and traveler Jiří Němec, gradually tried to establish a tradition of foreign animal behavior in the capital. Not only their efforts led to the opening of a modern garden in 1931 on an area of 24 hectares. Three times smaller than today :)

The Prague Zoo is located in the Troja district, has 69 hectares and is home to almost 5,000 animals. You can see all the usual and unusual species from the animal kingdom with us. We then present the individual representatives in their natural environment, which is why you can feel like in the jungle or on the prairie.

We hope that you will be interested in exhibits of elephants and hippos, the Africa Pavilion up close, where you can observe giraffes, bird aviaries with rare species of parrots, the very popular pavilion of felines or the water world or the penguin pavilion. The pavilion of our gorillas is of course also very popular and highly visited. And lots and lots more…

If you want to see everything we offer, a complete visit to the entire garden will take you 4 to 5 hours, so you can spend a pleasant afternoon with us. Finally, don't forget to walk through the gardens of the neighboring picturesque Baroque Troja Castle and end your visit with one of the local snacks.

If you come, you will not regret it. We look forward to you.
